“What are Castles Made of?”
Victor Moore created this improvisational still life over the span of 15 years. The main sculpture/structure was built in the early 70’s for his MFA project and the metal junk pile it was made from remained below ever since. He ended up teaching art at a local high school until he retired, after which, he built a modern log cabin on the land this structure was built on. My father taught chemistry at the same high school and he and Victor were good friends. Thus I was exposed to this piece at a very young age and its image still teaches me things about art, improvisation, and myself.
The fence post with the melting, windblown snow on top of it prompted this frame, and is one of the better shots, compositionally, that I had that day.
